Expanded autism care center opens in Marlborough

Photo/Google Applied Behavioral Associates, located in downtown Marlborough, has expanded into a larger space to provide autism services on-site.

Applied Behavioral Associates has moved into an expanded autism care facility in Marlborough after its acquisition by a national firm based in Michigan.

The center said Thursday it has expanded its space at 277 Main St., giving it a capacity to accommodate 30 additional children. With 1,300 square feet, it can now serve 30 children at the center and 15 in home-based treatment. It didn't previously provide care at the center itself.

The expanded space also adds 15 additional jobs to the 30 who already provided care for Applied Behavioral Associates.

The center was acquired last month by Centria Healthcare, giving the national company its first location in New England.

Applied Behavioral Associates Founder Barbara Natoli, the agency's executive director, announced her retirement last year. Natoli previously said she had to choose between closing the business, which she opened in 1988, or finding anther company to continue providing services, and chose the acquisition by Centria.
