AMSC Cinches $20M India Turbine Tech Deal

Devens-based American Superconductor Corp. has wrangled another large, overseas contract for wind turbine technology, this time from India.

AMSC expects to begin shipping $20 million in full wind turbine electrical control systems to Ghodawat Energy by the middle of the year. The shipments will be completed by the end of 2013 at the latest, the company said.

Ghodawat said it wants to claim 25 percent of India's wind market share and expand into foreign markets. The company currently owns and operates more than 150 turbines that generate more than 100 megawatts of electricity in four Indian states.

It owns its own turbine tower manufacturing facility. The company licenses AMSC's 1.65-megawatt Windec turbine design in 2008.
