AMSC Touts Megawatt Milestone

American Superconductor Corp. of Devens says it has supported the production of more than 15,000 megawatts of wind power, about 10 percent of the world's wind-generated electricity.

That's enough to power 4.5 million households in the United States.

The manufacturer of superconductor wire and other components used in wind turbines said the wind industry is the company's primary business driver.

The company does a significant amount of business in Asia and said industry reports indicate that China and other Asian countries could install as much as 20,000 megawatts of wind power in 2011.
