Fitchburg-based Arrhythmia Research Technologies Inc. (ART) announced that CEO and board member James Rouse has resigned after 16 years with the company.
Michael Gunter, a director of the company, will take over as interim CEO.
Rouse said in a statement that he wants to take some time to pursue a new career path.
"I wish ART and its employees much success in the future," Rouse said in the company's announcement Tuesday afternoon.
E.P. Marinos, chairman of the board, said the company is grateful to Rouse for his leadership.
"We wish him all the best in the next stage of his career," Marinos said.
He added that Gunter is familiar with the business and will help facilitate a smooth transition.
The change comes as ART and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Micron Products, have struggled with an investment in WirelessDx, a startup medical services company based in Pennsylvania that has not been as profitable as expected. For the first half of 2012, ART lost $1.4 million on $11.2 million in revenue.
Arrhythmia has said it's exploring strategic alternatives for WirelessDx, including a possible sale of all or some of its assets.
