Natick-based BJ's Wholesale Club Inc. says July sales increased by 18.9 percent from $650.5 million a year ago to $773.2 million last month.
July same store sales increased by 16.7 percent compared to July 2007 thanks to a contribution of 9.7 percent from the sale of gasoline, the company said. In 2007, BJ's reported a same store sales increase of 1.5 percent in July.
The wholesale club's second quarter sales hit $2.65 billion, a 17.9 percent increase over the same period the prior year.
The company said sales increased each week during July, with the biggest increase coming in the last week of the month. Upstate New York and the Southeast had the largest sales increases while New England and metropolitan New York had the smallest sales increases.
