Can't hear you now

According to Framingham-based IDC's worldwide quarterly mobile phone tracker, vendors shipped 13.8 percent fewer cell phones in the first quarter of 2007 than in the previous quarter.

The fourth quarter of 2006 was a record quarter for cell phone shipments, IDC said.

"The first quarter of 2007 marks the first quarter of slower growth in the mobile phone market," IDC said. The market research and consulting firm said the cell phone market had shown growth during each quarter of 2006.

In all, mobile phone vendors shipped 256.4 million units during the first quarter, which is 10 percent more than were shipped in the first quarter of 2006.

IDC ranked the top five mobile phone vendors by the number of units shipped. They were:
Nokia, Motoroloa, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and LG Electronics.
