Ellen Jane Foley has worked in HR for real estate, retail management and manufacturing companies. For the past six years, she's focused on health care. So when Worcester home health company Home Staff LLC created a new position for a manager of human resources, Foley fit the bill. In this Q&A, she talks about her love of singing, considering a career in TV news and the importance of a positive attitude.

Q. What challenges do you see in your new position?

A. Every day is a new and exciting challenge. I love every minute! It is a newly created position and I feel very needed and respected.

Q. What's your favorite thing about Central Massachusetts?
A. Being so close to Boston, Rhode Island and Connecticut. Who could ask for more? Except maybe living next to Fenway Park!

Q. How close is this to what you imagined in high school you'd end up doing?
A. In high school, I Just wanted to graduate and have a career as a newscaster. I ended up in a career where communication is key just the same.

Q. How far is your commute to the office?

A. About 10 minutes.

Q. What could local and state governments do to make things better for your business?

A. To focus on continuing to provide funding for not only our elder community but our mental health community and our children too.

Q. What's the best way to keep your energy and motivation up when you're having a long day?

A. I am a positive person and am thankful for having a job that I can go to every day. In this economy I am blessed to have a job that I want to go to. That is my motivation. My energy? Well, that just comes naturally.

Q. Do you have any hobbies outside of work?
A. Music of course! Singing is my other passion in life.

Q. What's on your to-do list for the next couple of days?

A. For starters, completing the new job descriptions for staff, finalizing a few
new practices and policies, and continuing to recruit solid employees for our
many home health care positions. Honestly there is too much to write to answer
that.
