• Lynn Morris and Julie Burne are the recipients of the 2007 Connecticut Nurses’ Foundation scholarships. The scholarships are sponsored by Hartford Healthcare Federal Credit Union in Hartford.
• Teresa Bulanda, teacher at Lewis Fox Middle School in Hartford, is one of the finalists for the Presidential awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. Bulanda was nominated for her enthusiasm and creativity in teaching math.
• The Bank of America Charitable Foundation gave $200,000 in grants to Our Piece of the Pie and Hartford Stage Co. through their Neighborhood Excellence Initiative. Local heroes for 2007 include: Anthony Cymerys, Jean-Pierre van Rooy, Steve Famiglietti, David La Bau and Kay Pellizarri. Student leaders for 2007 include: Jillian Cunningham, Katherine Quish, Amy Ramirez, Denise Roberts and Suleiman Salamat.
• Global Harmony Institute in Farmington presented Hope Emery with the Founder’s award. The 2007 Compassionate Leadership award was given to Donna Berman, executive director at Charter Oak Center. The Golden Care Circle award was presented to Diva Maria Mella Malinowski for “Warm Hands, Warm Hearts.”
• Fred Shamburg, president of Leanovations, became a Connecticut Shingo Prize Examiner through CONNSTEP in Plainville. The Shingo Prize model advances manufacturing and management techniques for operational excellence.
