First-time jobless claims dip

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the number of people filing for unemployment insurance for the first time fell last week by 13,000 to 313,000.

The figure for the week ended June 23 was a decrease of 13,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 326,000. The 4-week moving average was 316,000, an increase of 1,000 from the previous week's revised average of 315,000, the department said.

The seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent for the week ending June 16, unchanged from the prior week's un-revised rate of 1.9 percent.
