Friday the 13th marked the opening of Scoop’s Scoopz: Worcester’s newest ice cream shop.
Located at 807 Pleasant St., Scoop’s Scoopz is the brainchild of Vaughn Slowaski, the owner of the city’s now-shuttered ScoopDrip sneaker store.
ScoopDrip closed its doors at 140 Millbury St. at the end of 2024, with Slowaski citing the area’s decline as the reason he closed up shop. But the decision wasn’t necessarily all bad.
“ScoopDrip was called ScoopDrip because I always dream of owning an ice cream shop today,” he told WBJ.
Slowaski began selling his own sneakers in 2020 as a way to recuperate financially from a real estate deal that turned sour when he was living in Cleveland, Ohio.
“I came back with my tail tucked between my legs and scared of life,” he said. “I didn't know enough about business back then to just jump straight into the ice cream business. So I used the last five years at ScoopDrip as a college or a crash course on business.”
Thus, Scoop’s Scoopz was born.
The shop sources its ice cream from a local Massachusetts vendor, offering a range of cups and cones, including hard and soft serve ice cream, water ice, ice cream nachos, and frappes. A couple flavors that have received the most questions so far have been Dirty Water, a Columbian coffee-based ice cream with fudge swirls and chocolate chips, and Goo Lagoon, a green cake batter ice cream with white chocolate chips and cookie dough.
The shop serves pup cups made of vanilla soft serve with dog treats mixed in.
Scoop’s Scoopz is currently open from noon to 9 p.m., seven days a week, but Slowaski is looking to expand hours in the future.
“I'm very excited for the next chapter that I created and extremely humbled by the perception of the neighborhood we’re a part of now,” said Slowaski.
