Framingham firm secures $44M to renovate historic Puerto Rican building

Framingham construction firm Perini Management Services has secured a task order contract to repair and renovate a historic building on the National Register of Historic Places in Puerto Rico.

The contract with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection is valued at approximately $44.1 million. It will fund repairs and renovations to the San Juan Custom House, which was built in 1924 in the Spanish Colonial Revival style and is particularly notable for its exterior and interior terracotta ornamentation, according to a release from Perini.

The two-year project involves complete renovation and restoration of the historic two-story building. It includes repairs and restorations to the interior and exterior; mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems; fire protection systems and communications.

All renovation work will follow strict guidelines with regard to preservation of historical fabric for this project.
