Framingham gets $3.4M grant for Nobscot Village infrastructure

A major intersection in Framingham's Nobscot Village will be rebuilt thanks to a $3.4-million MassWorks infrastructure grant announced Wednesday.
The intersection of Edgell and Edmands roads and Water Street sits next to a proposed development of 158 residential units and retail space. That project, called the Village at Nobscot, will replace a dated and mostly empty retail plaza that sits on the site today.
The Village at Nobscot, which the Gov. Charlie Baker Administration said will cost $43.5 million, is due to include residents in two three-story buildings with a smaller amount of retail space than what's on the site today. CVS, a last tenant of the old plaza, will move into a planned new standalone building.
The infrastructure grant announced Wednesday will help pay for rebuilding the intersection and add handicapped-accessible sidewalks, aesthetic improvements, bus shelters and road markings indicating travel lanes are shared with bicyclists. The intersection is along a MetroWest Regional Transit Authority bus route.
