Framingham hits $56M in downtown investments

The downtown area of Framingham has had over $56 million in funding and funding announcements over the last two years.

The city released the numbers Wednesday detailing the investments that have already taken place (including a $10 million road improvement project) and investments that are planned in the near future (including a $7.6 million expansion from MetroWest Medical Center). The investments range from private business expansions, such as Jack’s Abby Brewery’s $6 million expansion and relocation to the public investment in infrastructure.

The investments include:

  • $10 million in Route 126 Corridor/Downtown Road Work and Utility Upgrades
  • $30 million in utility infrastructure upgrades from Eversource
  • $7.6 million MetroWest Medical Center expansion that includes enhancements to its main lobby located in downtown Framingham
  • $2 million in an expanded presence downtown by CommCreative

Town officials credit many of these investments with a 2015 change to downtown zoning to allow for more contemporary residential housing.
