Jack Schofield, a local online entrepreneur with experience in Internet advertising, has founded an online newspaper, GraftonTimes.com.
The site, which officially went live today, already features coverage of this morning's opening of the New England Biosafety Laboratory in town, a birth announcement, local meeting notices and other features of the sort usually found in community papers.
"It's just something that's way overdue for the town," Schofield said.
The site's editor, Jennifer Lord Paluzzi, is a veteran of the newspaper industry with more than 20 years of daily journalism experience. In October, she was laid off from New York-based GateHouse Media, which publishes hundreds of daily and weekly papers including a number in Central Massachusetts.
The site is free and offers banner ads for local businesses as well as a business directory.
"We have quite an in-depth marketing plan in place," Schofield said.
He declined to discuss specifics about the business plans for the venture but said it's off to a good start, receiving "600 hits" in just two hours today.
