Job gain/loss numbers trump unemployment rate

The government recently reported that U.S. businesses added about 192,000 jobs in March, the 42nd straight month of job gains and the eighth in the last 12 in which the gains exceeded 150,000. Meanwhile, the nation's unemployment rate remained unchanged, at 6.7 percent. Some argue that the unemployment rate is an imperfect measure of how the job market is doing. In last week's Flash Poll, nearly half of respondents said the numbers on job gains or losses is a better measure. Yet, we received many thoughtful comments on this question.
