Four attorneys with Worcester County connections - James T. Van Buren, Margaret J. Hurley, George M. Thompson Jr. and James C. Donnelly Jr. - have been appointed as chairs for the Massachusetts Bar Association's sections for the 2009-2010 year.
Fitchburg solo practitioner Van Buren is serving as co-chair of the Access to Justice Section for the third year. He has practiced in Fitchburg for 34 years and is vice chair of the Massachusetts Access to Justice Commission and former president of the Worcester County Bar Association.
Hurley, chief of the Attorney General's Central Massachusetts Regional Office, is co-chair of the Public Law Section. She directs the Attorney General's Municipal Law Unit in Worcester. She has also represented cities and towns for Boston and Worcester law firms. She lives in Grafton.
Thompson, of Sager & Schaffer LLP in Westborough, is chair of the Business Law Section. He is a Westborough resident and serves on the Board of Selectmen. He is also an adjunct professor of insurance law at Southern New England School of Law in Dartmouth.
Donnelly is co-chair of the Judicial Administration Section. He is a partner at Mirick, O'Connell, DeMallie & Lougee LLP in Worcester. He has more than 30 years of experience in trial and appellate courts and serves on the Business Litigation Section Advisory Committee of the Massachusetts Superior Court. He lives in Worcester and is a corporator of the greater Worcester Community Foundation and the Worcester Art Museum.
