Lutheran Home Plans $9M Expansion

The Lutheran Home of Worcester, a senior care center, has changed its name to Lutheran Healthcare Center, and will undergo a $9 million expansion and renovation at its Harvard Street facility, according to company officials.

The facility will add a 9,200-square-foot wing named after Pastor Paul and Carol Kennedy, long-time supporters of the center. The new addition will feature 26 single and double occupancy rooms, according to the center's web site. Work is expected to start on the new center this summer.

Renovation of the existing facility will include 1,400 square feet of remodeled rehabilitation space and the renovation of 42 existing rooms, 21 of which will provide expanded rehabilitation space.

The name change is part of an effort to reflect the changing needs of the senior population, according to the center. In addition to providing long-term intensive care, the center will also focus more on short-term rehabilitation care after hospitalization for illness or surgery.
