While the Massachusetts private sector added an impressive 19,200 jobs last month, the state's unemployment rate remained steady, according to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
The government lost an estimated 6,000 jobs as more census workers were no longer employed, leading to a total jobs gain of about 13,200 in Massachusetts last month. The 19,200 job increase in the private sector is the single largest monthly employment gain in the state in 20 years.
The leisure and hospitality sector continued its monthly gains, adding 6,500 jobs, or 2.2 percent, while the manufacturing sector added 2,800 jobs, a 1.1 percent increase. Construction posted job gains for the fourth consecutive month, adding 500 jobs, or 0.5 percent.
The state also revised its estimates for the number of jobs created in June from 500 to 2,800.
