Two clear themes emerged from Sunday's Super Bowl advertisements: men are oppressed and pants are definitely optional. Did either of those themes resonate with you? Tell us by taking our Most Valuable Advertisement Poll.
Humor was definitely the style-du jour last night. By the WBJ's count, 57 ads employed some brand of humor, while violence was used nine times. "Sex sells" may be an old saying, but the family audience of the game definitely influenced Madison Avenue: Only three ads (two from GoDaddy.com and one from Motorola) had sexy overtones.
In addition to the "poor men" motif (used by Dove, Dodge and others) and the underwear (CareerBuilder and others), many ads also featured animals, including chickens (Denny's), beavers (Monster.com) and cockatoos (CarMax).
Meanwhile, there wasn't much in the way of politics or controversy. The much-hyped ad from Focus On the Family featuring Tim Tebow and his mother was definitely toned down for the game.
