Mount Wachusett College To Dedicate Turbines

Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner is dedicating two wind turbines today that are expected to produce 97 percent of the college's energy needs.

MWCC is dedicating the turbines to U.S. Rep. John Olver, D-Amherst, as well as Edward Terceiro, the college's executive vice president emeritus and resident engineer. The turbines went online last month.

The $9-million construction project to install both turbines was paid for through $3.2 million in federal Department of Energy grants, $2.1 million in low-interest clean renewable energy bonds and $3.7 million in Massachusetts clean energy investment bonds.

Richard Sullivan, the state secretary of energy and environmental affairs, is expected to attend today's 2 p.m. dedication ceremony.
