Mount Wachusett Community College (MWCC) executive vice president Edward Terceiro Jr. has earned a seat on the American Council on Renewable Energy's Higher Education Committee (HEC) Steering Committee.
The honor stems from MWCC's efforts made in energy conservation. The Gardner-based campus has created enough renewable energy to power 1,500 homes a year, among other energy-saving measures.
MWCC is one of 25 colleges and universities in the U.S. to be named to the HEC steering committee.
The HEC aims to encourage 100 U.S. colleges and universities to purchase 100 percent renewable energy by 2010, and to direct at least 10 percent of their endowments into funds that support renewable energy firms. Other goals include encouraging schools to create courses in renewable energy by 2010.
