National Grid Praises Clark U's Green Building

Worcester's Clark University will be honored by utility company National Grid Saturday for becoming the only facility in Worcester and one of only two in the county to receive Gold LEED certification.

LEED is the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program. Clark has made significant advances in energy efficiency over the last 20 years and its efforts have saved more than 2.5 million kilowatt-hours annually. That's enough to power 500 homes for one year. The university also saves $350,000 per year on electricity bills through its conservation efforts.

National Grid and state energy officials will honor the university during the school's alumni weekend activities. The program begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the school's Lasry Bioscience building and includes a facility tour.
