C.K. Smith Co. Inc., a Worcester-based fuel and energy services dealer, says after 115 years in business, it's going green.
Smith said the company is starting an "Alternative Energy & Services" division responsible for new solar power, propane and plumbing services. The solar system Smith will carry is called Hybrid-Energy and it uses solar panels along with any home or business's existing oil, natural gas, propane, electric or wood systems to produce heat, hot water or both.
The company said that by next year, it hopes to use the new solar system to heat swimming pools and hot tubs and to power air conditioning units.
The company said federal and state tax credits are available to help purchase a Hybrid-Energy system.
C.K. Smith was started in 1893 as a coal, hay and grain company.
