QCC, MWCC to split $2.5M, as part of $48M statewide adult education push

Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester and Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner were among organizations across Massachusetts receiving $48.2 million in state grants to support workforce development and adult education.

QCC will receive $1.6 million, and MWCC will receive $984,233 in fiscal 2024 grant from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Education, according to the press release Tuesday from the state agency announcing the funding.

In total, nine Central Massachusetts organizations will split $7.3 million under the program next fiscal year.

The funds will be used for workforce development and to help people achieve economic self-sufficiency, earn a secondary-school credential, aid English learners, and educate parents on their children’s educational development.

“These grants will benefit not only residents, but employers and communities across the Commonwealth,” said Gov. Charlie Baker in the press release.

The Office of Adult and Community Learning Services within the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education administers the state’s no-cost public adult education system through community adult learning centers and correctional institutions across 16 local workforce development areas in the commonwealth.

Other Central Massachusetts organizations receiving funding under the program are:

  • Framingham Public Schools will receive $1.7 million.
  • Worcester Public Schools will receive $731,719.
  • Hudson Public Schools will receive $707,201.
  • The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office will receive $487,473.
  • Clinton Public Schools will receive $414,494.
  • Webster Public Schools will receive $377,757.
  • Education nonprofit Training Resources of America’s Worcester office will receive $258,030.
