National recession marketing expert Victor Cheng will share the traits of businesses that have been successful during a down economy at a MetroWest Chamber of Commerce event.
The event is slated for Friday, July 17 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Sheraton Framingham Hotel & Conference Center on Route 9.
Cheng recently completed an analysis of the last 12 recessions in the United States, covering 120 years of economic history. He found companies that grew from zero to $1 billion in sales during a recession and determined what they have in common.
Cheng will share what those companies have done and how other companies can replicate the successes in their own businesses even if they are very small or have a narrow niche.
Cheng's book is entitled "The Recession Proof Business: Lessons from the Greatest Recession Success Stories of All Time." He is a graduate of Stanford University and a former consultant with business management consulting firm McKinsey & Co.
He has been a guest commentator on marketing in a recession for the Fox Business Television Network and has appeared on MSNBC as well as in The Wall Street Journal, and Smart Money and Inc. magazines. Cheng has also been a featured speaker at the Harvard Business School.
"We've been doing this series of recession-related seminars," said Ted Welte, president of the MetroWest chamber. "We had another one about navigating the recession so when this opportunity came up it seemed like a natural fit."
The cost is $10 for pre-registered chamber members and $20 for non-members. Click here to register or call the chamber at 508-879-5600.
