Report: information gap for college-bound

The Massachusetts College Goal Sunday, a Boston-based charitable group, released a report today showing that a gap exists for many students trying to better understand the financial aid process.

The results showed that of more than 500 respondants, 95 percent acknowledged needing help with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), while more than a third needed one-on-one assistance with the form.  Of those surveyed, 55 percent of the parents of the college-bound students had no college degree, and 67 percent of the applicants' families made less than $60,000 a year.

According to Gail Holt, tri-chair of the Massachusetts College Goal Sunday, almost one million students who do not fill out the FAFSA would actually be eligible for financial grants.
