Two months after assuming her role as interim president and CEO of RFK Community Alliance, Kathy Mills has dropped her temporary tag at the Lancaster nonprofit.
Mills will lead RFK through June 30, 2026, following the board of trustees’ unanimous vote in favor of her appointment, according to a Tuesday press release.
“The board has great confidence in Kathy and the direction she’s setting. We’re positive that under her leadership, RFK Community Alliance is well-positioned for this next chapter — one filled with purpose, growth, and unity,” Jim Geraghty, chair of the board of trustees, said in the release.
Now in a permanent capacity, Mills succeeds RFK’s former President and CEO Michael Ames, who stepped down in mid-April after a 10-year tenure with the nonprofit.
Mills joined RFK in January as interim chief operating officer after previously serving as the organization’s vice president of innovation and learning for four years. In between her positions at RFK, she worked as vice president of programs at The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts, based in Worcester.
Mills graduated with her Ph.D. in social policy from Brandeis University’s Heller School for Social Policy and Management in Waltham, earned her master’s degree in social work from the Simmons University School of Social Work in Boston, and holds her bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of New Hampshire.
Established in 1896, RFK is a multi-service agency providing services to families facing complicated challenges, including caring for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, behavioral health concerns, and substance use disorders.
In fiscal 2024, RFK generated $46.67 million in revenue and held $49.01 million in assets, according to nonprofit financial tracker GuideStar.
