Saint-Gobain's Worcester Complex Earns Certification

Saint-Gobain's entire 108-acre Greendale manufacturing complex in Worcester has been ISO certified to comply with international environmental standards.

The certification, ISO 14001, is the result of a two-year effort by a team of 20 employees at the company's five Worcester operations: Saint-Gobain Abrasives, Crystar, Saint-Gobain Grains and Powders, Saint-Gobain Refractories and the company's research and development unit.

The Paris-based company has more than 1,500 employees at the Greendale complex and 2,600 in Massachusetts with facilities in Milford, Northborough, Northampton and Norwood.

The team developed and documented environmental policies and created procedures for the ongoing review of the environmental aspects of Saint-Gobain products, activities and services in order to become certified.

In addition to each business unit at the Greendale complex having its own set of environmental impacts, each has its own management organization, its own quality control system and its own accounting system, the company said.

The environmental policies that earned the company the ISO certification will also help it "stay ahead of increasing regulatory requirements," the company said.
