NORESCO, a Westborough-based division of Carrier Global Corp., has secured a multi-year energy savings performance contract for a U.S. Army facility in Alabama.

The contract, worth $3 billion and shared among 18 contractors, will see NORESCO assist with energy- and utility-related infrastructure improvements at the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center in Huntsville, Alabama, according to a press release from the company on Tuesday.

“It’s an honor for NORESCO to continue supporting the federal government’s resiliency, energy efficiency and security initiatives,” Doug Sattler, senior vice president, federal, at NORESCO, said in the press release.

The contract consists of a five-year base period and one five-year option period, according to a Thursday press release from the Army Corps of Engineers. The performance-base contract allows federal agencies to complete energy savings projects without up-front capital costs or special Congressional appropriations.

“The long-term partnership between Huntsville center, the energy-savings companies, and our customers requires a high degree of commitment to enable successful outcomes,” Dale Adkins, Huntsville center’s acting Energy Division chief, said in the Thursday press release from the Army Corps of Engineers.

Since being founded in 1984, NORESCO has implemented solutions providing more than $5 billion in cost savings at more than 10,000 facilities, reducing customer carbon-dioxide emissions by more than 25 million metric tons, according to its Tuesday press release. The firm was acquired by Florida-based Carrier Global Corp. in 2008, according to a press release from Carrier at the time.
