Boston-based SatCon, a manufacturer of electronics and motors, has successfully passed audits by the United States Defense Supply Center in Columbus, Ohio.
The re-certification allows SatCon to maintain certification to manufacture space-qualified products to MIL-PRF-38534 Hybrid Microcircuit Class K standards, considered to be the highest level of reliability possible in the manufacturing of microelectronic assemblies for military and space programs. The audits are performed by the Defense Supply Center every 24 to 26 months.
CEO Jack Worthen noted that products with the "K" level designation represented 25 percent of the company's backlog in 2006, and that the power components of the satellite and space electronics market is valued at "roughly $200 million."
SatCon has operations in Worcester and Marlboro.
