September Job Cuts Fewest Since July 2008

Private employers cut 254,000 jobs between August and September, which was the smallest decline since July of last year, according to the ADP National Employment Report.

September's job loss total was 23,000 less than August's decline of 277,000.

The private payroll processing company said that employment losses have diminished significantly over the past two quarters but that employment is likely to continue falling for at least several more months.

September's report estimates that the goods-producing sector saw the most significant decline with 151,000 jobs lost. The service sector was second, with 103,000 jobs cut. The manufacturing industry lost 74,000 jobs, which is about the same from the previous month.
