As part of an effort to handle budget constraints and prepare for the future, Fitchburg State College has shifted the responsibilities of staffers Karen Sharpe, Mariann Castelli Hier, Jacklynn Taylor, Michael Kushmerek and Carolyn Garrahan.
Sharpe, who previously served as interim director of the alumni and development office, has been named executive director of international advancement. In her new position, she leads the alumni relations and development office and serves as the liaison to the Fitchburg State College Foundation Inc., the college's supporting foundation. Sharpe has 17 years of experience in journalism, marketing and communications. She is a graduate of Clark University and lives in Sterling.
Hier, a 15-year employee of the college, moves from director of financial planning and investments to director of development and special projects. In her new position, she will oversee management of funds, investment and budgeting for the foundation. She is a FSC graduate and has a master's degree from Antioch University. She lives in Ashby.
Kushmerek is a 2008 graduate of FSC and has been acting coordinator of alumni relations since October 2008. He now has the permanent position of coordinator of alumni relations. He lives in Fitchburg.
Taylor, a 29-year employee of the college, moves from administrative assistant at the public relations and cultural affairs office to administrative assistant for at the alumni development office. She has an associate's degree from Mount Wachusett Community College. She lives in Fitchburg.
Garrahan, a 10-year FSC employee, is expanding her role as administrative assistant in the alumni and development office to include providing support for the grant center. She lives in Leominster.
