Strategy consultant urges funk, pizzazz

John Mullin urged the North Central Massachusetts Economic Development Council this morning to increase its fiber-optic connectivity and incorporate "pizzazz" and "sizzle" into its branding and marketing efforts.

Speaking at the organization's spring regional meeting in Leominster, Mullin, the Council's economic strategy consultant and president of Pelham-based Mullin Associates Inc., told the NCMEDC its members need to offer state-of-the-art network access in order to increase business growth in the region.

"The one key element is fiber-optic connectivity," Mullin said. "If you don't have it, you're dead."

Mullin told the NCMEDC that his "pet peeve" is staid branding campaigns that do little to create excitement in potential revenue streams.

"There's no sizzle," he said. "It's not funky. It's not pizzazzy. We're solid as can be, but where's the pizzazz? Where's the fire?"

Also speaking at the meeting were Andy Davis, the president of Worcester-based Davis Advertising and state Rep. Daniel Bosley, the house chair of the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies.
