Survey: Employees Support Management

A recent survey revealed that most working professionals feel as though their employers are taking appropriate action during the current recession, and a majority of them believe their companies will be stronger once the economy rebounds.

Out of the 457 workers surveyed, 69 percent believed that their employers are doing most things or everything right. Twenty-six percent said that their companies are doing only some things right; and only 4 percent believed that their employers are doing nothing right. The survey was conducted by an independent research firm on behalf of the staffing firm Robert Half International.

When asked if they thought their company would emerge from the recession stronger or weaker than before, 55 percent of the workers answered "somewhat stronger" or "much stronger"; 29 percent believed there would be no change; and only 14 percent believed their companies would be "somewhat weaker" or "much weaker" than before.

Max Messmer, chairman and CEO of Robert Half, recommended keeping communication with employees open.

"Letting employees know how the company plans to persevere and grow also builds confidence," he said in a press release about the survey. "Professionals who feel positive about their firm's prospects are more apt to stay on board for the long term."

The survey is based on telephone interviews with workers 18 years of age or older who work in an office environment.
