Unum Lobbies On Insurance Issues

Unum Group, which has more than 700 employees in Central Massachusetts, spent $322,000 last year on lobbying related to long-term care insurance, genetic testing and terrorism, the AP reports.

The insurer company lobbied the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives on a bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code to allow long-term care to be offered under cafeteria and flexible spending plans.

The company also lobbied Congress on a proposal to keep insurers from using genetic tests to deny coverage or set rates, and on a bill to extend the Treasury Department's terrorism insurance program.
