U.S. 1Q hiring stable but softer

Hiring in the U.S. will remain relatively stable, but softer than it was a year ago, according to the employment outlook survey released by international staffing agency Manpower Inc.

Manpower said employers plan to cut back on hiring plans in the first quarter amid economic concerns "that continue to weigh on the minds of employers."

Hiring expectations are weakest in the finance, insurance, real estate and construction sectors, Manpower said. The agency said it expects a cautious first-quarter hiring climate in the U.S.

Manpower said the strongest first-quarter hiring prospects are in South American and Asian countries.
