Value Index: Little Bang For Buck In Boston

Waltham-based Salary.com Inc. has released its list of American cities that offer residents the most bang for their buck, and not surprisingly, Boston doesn't even crack the top 50.

Using the cost of living, local salaries and unemployment rates in cities with 250,000 or more residents, the 2008 Salary Value Index ranks the best and worst cities in which to build personal wealth, the company said.

Boston is ranked 58th on the list of 69 cities. The best cities on the list were Plano, Texas, Aurora, Colo., Omaha, Neb., Minneapolis, Minn., and Albuquergue, NM. The worst were San Francisco, Calif., Honolulu, Hawaii, Los Angeles, Calif., Washington, D.C. and New York City.
