A Westborough manufacturing facility has signed an agreement to produce a foot ulcer product for Somerville-based company Podimetrics.

The plant will add new manufacturing lines to increase its capacity as part of the new partnership, which was announced Tuesday at an event with U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern, a Worcester Democrat, among others. The facility is one of 14 in the United States, China and Mexico owned by the electronics producer NEO Tech.

Podimetrics makes a product called SmartMat for patients at risk for diabetic foot ulcers. A patient places his or her foot on the cellular-connected device for 20 seconds each day, transmitting data to the company to evaluate any needed treatment from a clinician. Foot ulcers can often progress to wounds and even amputations, the company said.

More than 1 million diabetic foot ulcers occur each year in the United States, according to Podimetrics, which in May announced $13.4-million in Series B funding, which takes place after a company has advanced past a start-up phase.

NEO Tech has been located at the 198,000-square-foot facility at 125 Fisher St. since 2017. A limited liability corporation with the same California address as NEO Tech's headquarters bought the 24-acre site that year for $10 million.

Financial details of the production partnership were not disclosed.
