A Worcester manufacturer of skin cannabis patches has signed an international license agreement with a Canadian marijuana firm.

Manna Molecular Science, based in Worcester with a lab in Mansfield, will license its formulations, equipment and processes to Aphria Inc. to produce and sell the patches for medical and recreational markets outside of the U.S.

In Massachusetts, Manna Molecular Sciences’ patches, which are placed on the skin, are sold by Brockton-based dispensary In Good Health and Temescal Wellness in Hudson and Pittsfield.

Under the agreement, the company grants Aphria exclusive preferred vendor status for five years and an exclusive license to produce, market, promote and sell the patches.

“Manna is excited to be taking this monumental step with Aphria into becoming an internationally recognized brand,” CEO Nial DeMena said in a statement. “Aphria gives Manna the reach to distribute the Manna patch at a global level and share our principles of excellence in product design and manufacturing with the world outside the U.S.”

The Manna cannabis patch was developed by pharmaceutical scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and delivers the dose via the skin over 12 hours, according to the company.
