About Twisted Pine
Praised by NPR for their “upbeat, poppy vibe; energetic, driving rhythms; and virtuosic solos,” Twisted Pine takes traditional music in exhilarating directions. Bassist, Chris Sartori writes, “We’re rooted in bluegrass, continually inspired by explorers like Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas and Sierra Hull. “Right Now” takes this heritage into a new dimension. Our bluegrass is jazzy, our indie folk is poppy, our grooves are funky.” Twisted Pine [Kathleen Parks, fiddle; Dan Bui, mandolin; Chris Sartori, bass; Anh Phung, flute] grooves with fearless improvisation and intricate arrangements. “They were once bluegrass,” wrote The Boston Globe, “but … this Boston band has become something else, a wider version of string band, boundary jumpers akin to outfits like Punch Brothers, Nickel Creek, and Crooked Still.”

About Holdin’ Back The 60’s
Holdin’ Back the 60’s feature smooth vocals and harmonies with 60s instrumentation that will bring you back to an era that remains the benchmark of 20th Century Pop music. Tunes from the Ventures, the Kinks, the Byrds, the Beatles, the Rascals and the Grass Roots will utilize 12-string guitars, hammond organ and percussions of the era. Their crafted vocals and harmonies on tunes like “The Letter”, “Eight Days a Week” and “Temptation Eyes” will return the audience to the 60s sound. All band members are from central Massachusetts, where they have produced and played for very popular Worcester County bands Tornado Alley, The Paine St. Band, Ravin’ Blue and the Holdin’ Back Band.

Part of our summertime concert series, join us in front of the theatre on the Francis R. Carroll Plaza for FREE live music by Rippopotamus on the Bank of America Stage and food trucks.
About Rippopotamus
Formed in 1990 in Western Massachusetts’ Pioneer Valley, home to indie rock legends like Dinosaur Jr, The Pixies and Sebadoh, Rippopotamus quickly made a name for themselves in the local scene. After releasing two EPs, they capped off their time in the Valley with a performance alongside The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Phish, Fishbone and the Beastie Boys at UMass Amherst’s 1992 Spring Concert. Moving to Boston in 1993, the band immersed themselves in the city’s horn-driven funk scene, sharing stages with acts like Bim Skala Bim and Chucklehead. Their debut full-length album “Butter” dropped in 1994 and they soon found themselves touring with Queen Latifah and opening for hip-hop icons like De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest and The Pharcyde.
As their reputation grew, Rippopotamus won the 1996 Boston Music Award for Best Funk Band and continued headlining shows throughout New England. Their second album “Swim” arrived in 1997, followed by appearances at the Montreal Jazz Festival and an expanded touring circuit. The band’s track “Performa” became the theme song for MTV’s “Singled Out” and they later released a live album and multiple EPs before calling it a day in 2001. Over the years, members have stayed active in the music scene, occasionally reuniting for special performances. Now nearly 35 years later, Rippopotamus is back with their 35(ish) Tour celebrating their legacy of original funk music.
