As the leader of Central Massachusetts’ most talked-about sports organization, Cooper captains the Worcester Red Sox’s efforts to draw fans to Worcester’s $160-million Polar Park baseball stadium.
The first woman to ever lead a Red Sox-affiliated franchise, Cooper has been with the team for the entirety of her career, starting her tenure with the team as a merchandise intern when the then-Pawtucket Red Sox were still based in Rhode Island. She then followed the team up to Worcester, working her way through the depth chart and learning the tricks of the trade until she was named GM in 2023.
The WooSox have regularly been among the top minor league teams in terms of ticket sales, selling more than 500,000 for the third consecutive season in 2024. While major league GMs mostly focus on rosters and player transactions, Cooper’s role has her be the point person for the business side of operations. This means everything from helping come up with clever ways to entice fans into the ballpark, to figuring out ways to work with local nonprofits, to dealing with weather delays.
The early months of the 2025 season have presented many weather-related challenges, but Cooper and the WooSox have taken them in stride. When a mid-April snowstorm dumped five inches of snow on the field, the team pivoted a planned Saturday game into a Sunday doubleheader, with the field cleaned up just in time for the first pitch.
