Angelini likes to keep a low profile, but with the amount of power he holds in the growing Greater Worcester area, that’s been easier said than done.

Following a 57-year career at Worcester-based Bowditch & Dewey, Angelini made headlines in July when it was announced he would jump ship to Prince Lobel, a Boston-headquartered law firm which decided to open a Worcester office. The move sees him guiding one of the most prominent law firms in New England in making inroads in the local legal landscape, bringing a dozen of Bowditch’s top lawyers with him.

Normally playing more of a man-behind-the-curtain role when it comes to economic development, Angelini’s role as Worcester Redevelopment Authority chair has made him a central figure in the ongoing struggle between Worcester officials and developer Denis Dowdle, whose projects are a key cog in the effort to pay for the $160-million, City-owned Polar Park baseball stadium. Angelini clashed with Mark Donahue, another stalwart of the local legal scene, in a November WRA meeting as he sought answers from Donahue’s client Dowdle regarding why he had failed to meet certain commitments made in agreements with the WRA.

Now in his 80s, Angelini has taken a few things off his own plate, but his influence over local affairs remains well intact.
