$795M Ameresco Site Gets Final OK

The United States Department of Energy has given final approval to a 20-megawatt South Carolina biomass cogeneration facility built by Framingham-based Ameresco Inc.

The company installed the facility at the Savanna River Site, a secure DOE site once used for nuclear fuel processing, under a $795 million energy savings performance contract awarded in 2009.

After testing is complete, the plant will provide steam power to the Savanna River site, plus 30 percent of its electricity.

The project promises to save $944 million in energy and water use and operations and maintenance costs over 19 years. It replaces coal and oil fuel sources.
