A Note About Our New Look

Peter Stanton, Publisher of the Worcester Business Journal and Christina H. Davis, Editor of the Worcester Business Journal.
Dear readers,

Some of the best writing and reporting in the journalism world is not found on the front page of the New York Times or the Washington Post.

It's found on the sports page. Sports, with all the drama of competition and bigger-than-life personalities, often draws the most creative and emotional writers. If you are truly a Red Sox fan, then you are reading the local page and going online in order to get the latest scoop on who's hot, who's not, who's going to sign for $20 million a year, and who could be fired by the Yankees tomorrow.

While the business world may not be used to the same colorful coverage that sports receives, and can even be viewed as staid and boring by the uninitiated, we know better. We know that doing business is at its heart a competition, and that we're all keeping score against our goals, against last year's performance, and against the competition. So when you page through the redesigned Worcester Business Journal  you're going to find a more colorful and enticing format - full of new features and stats - that we believe will make the WBJ the sports pages of the Central Massachusetts business world.

The redesigned Worcester Business Journal that you hold in your hands was nearly nine months in the making.  After several focus groups of local executives and internal meetings mapping out many new elements, it reflects our effort to fully capture the dynamic nature of the Central Massachusetts business marketplace. With the new design, these pages will offer something for everyone, whether you're a tech start-up in Marlborough, a plastics manufacturer in Leominster or a lawyer in Worcester.

Inside, you'll find a place to stay connected to what's driving business in Central Massachusetts. The new Worcester Business Journal will continue to offer what you've come to depend on, like lots of news stories, our industry-specific lists, special focus features and the inside scoop on who's climbing the corporate ladder. But we've also added new features, like regular columns on the region's biotech industry, labor issues and manufacturing, a new Knowhow page on popular business issues, and an index of all the stories you'll find in each issue organized by town.  Take a closer look, and you'll see firsthand that we're the paper of record for the whole Central Massachusetts region.

All the changes we've made to the WBJ are an effort to build on the strength of the publication and provide more valuable content and further connections between our readers.

Give it a read, and let us know what you think. Sound off on our new design, or offer a story idea by sending an e-mail to editorial@wbjournal.com or calling us at 508-755-8004.

Sincerely,
