Accolades & Honors: Jan. 20, 2014

Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner and Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester will both benefit from a Massachusetts grant awarded by Complete College America (CCA). The grant's focus is to increase the number of college students studying in the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering and math. The two campuses — and nine others in the Bay State — will design strategic STEM programs with CCA's assistance and support.

Sturbridge-based Rehabilitative Resources Inc., (RRI) which supports those with developmental disabilities, was accredited by the Commission on Accreditation on Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). It's the second consecutive three-year accreditation CARF has awarded RRI.

Natick Visiting Nurse Association was named to the Top 500 of the 2013 HomeCare Elite, an award recognizing the top 25 percent of agencies in the U.S. Winners are ranked on criteria which include patient experience, quality consistency and financial performance.

Price Chopper Supermarkets, with several stores in Central Massachusetts, received recognition from the American Pharmacists Association for helping to improve care by those affected by diabetes, such as through its NuVal Nutrition Scoring system, which guides diabetics toward healthy foods.

Harvard Pilgrim Health Care — which has an office in Worcester — received the highest rating from the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) for its annual Corporate Equality Index. It was named a 2014 Best Place to Work by HRC, earning a score of 100 percent. The award is based on advancement of best practices for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees.

Framingham-based office supply giant Staples Inc. also earned a perfect score on the 2014 Corporate Equality Index and was named a 2014 Best Place to Work. Some of its initiatives to promote diversity include an Associate Resource Group for LGBT associates and supporters, called “Out at Work.”

Becker College in Worcester received six awards in the 2013 Education Digital Marketing Awards competition, including the Gold Award for the 2013 President's Report and for the Huffington Post blog written by college President Robert E. Johnson, and the Silver Award for its recently launched mobile app.

Wachusett Mountain in Princeton took the No.-5 spot in the “On-Mountain Food” category in SKI Magazine's annual reader survey in the 2014 Resort Guide.

Autumn Village Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Worcester has received a 5-star rating from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the highest rating.

Rollstone Bank & Trust, based in Fitchburg, has received a rating of “outstanding” for its practices as part of the federal Community Reinvestment Act. The award came from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
