ACT Gets Patent For Blood Cell Tech

Marlborough-based Advanced Cell Technology Inc. has received a patent for a method of creating various blood cells from human embryonic stem cells.

ACT says the cells created through the process can act as a source of transfusable blood and platelets, and repair damage caused by diseases including diabetes, heart disease, osteoarthritis and multiple sclerosis.

ACT has an exclusive license for the commercialization of the technology through a joint venture with South Korean biotechnology company CHA Bio & Diostech Co. Ltd.
