Aero Gear spreads its wings

The employee pool at Aero Gear Inc. in Windsor is taking off. The aircraft component manufacturer is planning to expand its work force by at least 20 percent over the next few years, and it's looking to Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield to make that happen. After winning an $11.1 million government contract to re-engineer parts for military aircraft, the company was forced to increase its 120 employee staff. By teaming with Asnuntuck, Aero has created an apprenticeship program, providing scholarships to students preparing for a career in aerospace. Douglas Rose, president of Aero Gear, said in a statement: "I want high school graduates to hear loud and clear: Forget an hourly job at a fast food joint. Come to Aero Gear for a real career."
