AIM: Mixed Signals On Employment

Jobs are growing in Massachusetts, but not enough to draw back many of the unemployed workers who've dropped out of the labor force, according to an economist with the Associated Industries of Massachusetts.

Writing on AIM's blog, economist Andre Mayer says the state has gained 26,000 jobs over the past three months - a fast enough pace to bring employment to pre-recession levels over time.

But, he says, the total workforce - people employed and those looking for work - grew only by 15,000 since the economy bottomed out in October 2009. That means many people are still "sitting on the sidelines," Mayer said.
