The Associated Industries of Massachusetts supports most of the provisions in legislation sponsored by State Sen. Karen Spilka, D-Ashland, which calls for an overhaul of the state's economic development departments.
The bill has passed the state's House of Representatives and Senate and is currently being reconciled in a conference committee.
In a statement, AIM said it supports most of the provisions within the bill, including one that calls for any new state regulations to have a business impact analysis, and a provision that calls for a study examining the high cost of electricity in the state.
Another AIM-supported provision calls for giving automatic extensions to construction permits on projects that have been slowed or stalled because of financial reasons. AIM also supports tax incentives for manufacturers that are included in the bill and the creation of a Massachusetts International Trade Office.
According to AIM, the bill calls for tax credits and exemptions from some property taxes for manufacturers who commit to growing jobs.
The Senate version of the bill includes the creation of a MetroWest Tourism Bureau, but the House version does not.
