Bay State Bank is opening a branch in Shrewsbury’s White City Plaza, its first new location following a name change meant to realign with the bank’s community values.
This marks the Worcester-based bank’s seventh overall branch and its first in Shrewsbury. It will be located at 50 Boston Turnpike in White City Plaza, according to a Thursday press release from Bay State.
Bay State has been looking to open a Shrewsbury location for years, as it has a number of customers in the town. Anne Joyce, who has more than 30 years of banking experience, will serve as the vice president of the new branch.
This is the first branch since Bay State Bank changed its name this year from Bay State Savings Bank to better align with its values, which continue to reflect its growth and commitment to Worcester for 130 years.
“This wasn’t about rebranding — it was about realigning. Bay State Bank reflects who we’ve always been and where we’re headed: a relationship-driven community bank focused on empowering people, businesses, and neighborhoods,” Bay State President and CEO Seth Pitts said in the press release. “Bay State is, and always will be, Bay State. Dropping ‘Savings’ was simply overdue. We’re a bank for dreamers, and for the day-to-day steps that help bring those dreams to life. That means more than savings alone.”
Bay State Bank has a branch in Auburn, Holden, and four in Worcester on Burncoat, Franklin, Grafton, and Mill Streets. The Shrewsbury branch is set to open on July 21.
